Episode 4: Actually, We're the Main Character

🎮 Episode 4 – Actually, We're the Main Character

Character creation is cute until the game acts like 3C hair is the limit. In Episode 4 of Video Games Are For Boys, we’re getting into the politics of play and why so many character creators still fall short — from vague diversity to limited hair textures and identity-lite sliders. We talk about the baddie avatars in some of our favorite games, the customization we still wish existed, and what we’d create if we had full control of the narrative and mechanics in games.

We’ve got opinions. We’ve got favorites. We’ve got dream games that haven’t been made yet.

🧠 In this episode:

▪️"Build-A-Baddie Workshop" – our favorite self-made avatars, from gorgeous to chaotic

▪️ "The Politics of Hair" – Black femmes on texture, representation, and character creation

▪️ "Dream Yourself In" – the fully customized characters and narratives we’d create if games got it right
