The Sims 4 Expansion Packs That Actually Hit (Yes, Including That One)

Let’s be real: not all Sims 4 packs are created equal. Some are filler. Some are bugs wrapped in “aesthetic” vibes. And a select few? They carry the game on their digital backs. If you’re not playing with Lovestruck, Get to Work, Growing Together, or Cats & Dogs, I truly don’t know what you’re doing with your Sims. These are the packs that make my game worth playing—and trust, I always play with chaos in mind.

Lovestruck: The Pack I Didn’t Know I Needed

Lovestruck showed up like a messy ex in a thunderstorm—drama, tension, and a ton of hot new ways to break hearts. Finally, Maxis gave us grown-ass romance. There’s tension, heartbreak, soulmates, poly drama, and enough yearning to write a fanfic about your Sim’s last three situationships.

But, instead of breaking hearts as I normally do in my let’s plays, I used this expansion pack to have a beautiful engagement shoot and wedding day for Ximena Michaelson and Marquise Harris from my The Michaelsons LP. Ciudad Enamorada was a 10/10 for my fav Black, rich, and childless couple’s beautiful journey!

Get to Work: Still Carrying the Employed Sims on Its Back

Olivier Hoskins MD, coming home from a shift to his side chick, Cassandra.

Say what you want, but Get to Work will always be that girl. It gave us active careers when the game was dry, dry, dry. My doctor Sim, and resident psycho murderer, Olivier Hoskins is an MD and has delivered a few of his sister’s babies, nephew’s first born, and some of his own kids with ex-wife Shayla Hoskins-Vasquez.

I’ve run retail stores that sold weed (shoutout to Basemental), bakeries that doubled as fronts for illegal substances, and a photo studio where the only thing getting shot was the photographer’s ego from each baddie who booked a session only to reject his advances.

This pack has range. Don’t let people who only build minimalist micro homes tell you otherwise.

Growing Together: The Family Chaos Pack

Family milestones from Growing Together Sims 4 expansion

For my family gameplay lovers (including chosen families and Sims with messy bloodlines), Growing Together adds real flavor. The milestones are cute, but the drama? Top tier. I had a teen kicked out of her home when she became pregnant at 15, and forced to lie to one boy that the baby was his at her parents’ request (major side eye at Atlas II Michaelson and his now ex-wife, Amara). Emotional complexity? We got it.

You want intergenerational beef? You want cousins fighting at a sleepover? You want your Sim’s toddler to have a midlife crisis because they weren’t hugged enough? This is the pack.

Cats & Dogs: The Emotional Support Animal for Your Game

I bought Cats & Dogs because I love my IRL dog son, Montgomery, and wanted my Sims to have furbabies to help them cope with the hell I put them through in the game. Hahaha.

Pets give even the grimiest Sims households a little heart. Your Sim could be cheating, stealing, dealing, and somehow that rescue dog makes it all feel wholesome.

Also, if have you never made your evil Sim adopt a cat just to be emotionally rejected? Iconic gameplay. That’s what storytelling is about.

In Conclusion: Choose Chaos and Connection

These packs give me everything I need: romance, drama, jobs with flair, emotional trauma, and dogs. If you’re trying to create rich, chaotic, unforgettable Sims stories—you need these.

Let me know which packs have your Simself in a chokehold. I want hot takes, passionate rants, and deep-throated defenses of your faves. But if you say Horse Ranch, I will ignore you — though…I did kind of enjoy my limited series let’s play called The Black Chestnut.

Til next time — Wicked Whims responsibly, and for the love of Simgod, get you some more spicy custom content to really let your Sims explore.
